Good health is not free

Good health is important to be earned, it is not free

Every October 15, Global Handwashing Partnership (GHP) focuses to raise awareness about the importance of hand washing using soap all around the world.

In 2014, when Console Mission’s basic health and management trainees were exploring opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge gained from the training, they were shown a way to organise hand washing steps in the public of the capital city/hub city of Nepal called Lalitpur. And, they followed it and GHP was celebrated for the first time in Nepal among the public. “Older people were saying: there is such a thing like hand washing celebration”. Then, every year it was celebrated. Beyond October 15, continued hygiene awareness activities were continued by the Console Mission, before Covid-19, focusing Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) especially Soil-Transmitted Helminths and Lymphatic Filariasis. Because hand washing is simple but essential for communicable diseases. And, under NTDs, more than 20 diseases listed, all are communicable from person to person, from vectors like mosquitos, from soil, etc.

The strategy Console Mission, for strengthening prevention in Nepal, focusing is (1.) Addressing the grassroots level to focus on prevention (2.) and reaching to the policy by increasing the local people’s capacity to speak to their local government.
